Istria in March
Good time to visit
March is a reasonable time to visit Istria.
All Months
May through October offers the best weather, but each season has its perks. Summer (July-August) brings festivals, outdoor dining, and perfect beach weather, but also crowds and high prices along the coast.
September and October are magic months. The summer crowds disappear, truffle season begins, and grape harvest creates a festive atmosphere at wineries. Temperatures hover around 20-25°C, perfect for exploring hilltop towns.
May and June offer mild weather and blooming landscapes. Hotel prices drop compared to peak season, and restaurant terraces reopen after winter. This is prime time for cycling and hiking.
Winter transforms Istria into a different place. Many coastal restaurants close, but inland towns maintain their charm. Truffle season peaks from October to December, and some wineries offer special winter tastings with fireplaces and hearty food pairings.
Avoid late July and August if you're sensitive to crowds. Rovinj and Poreč can feel overwhelmed, and restaurant reservations become essential. But the hilltop towns remain relatively peaceful even in peak season.
