Île Sainte-Marie in September
Great time to visit
September is one of the best months to visit Île Sainte-Marie.
All Months
Île Sainte-Marie's tropical climate means warm weather year-round, but timing your visit makes all the difference. The dry season from April to November offers the most comfortable conditions, with lower humidity, minimal rainfall, and constant trade winds that keep things bearable. This is when most travelers arrive, and for good reason. But here's the insider knowledge: July through September is whale season, when thousands of humpback whales migrate here from Antarctic waters. The spectacle is incredible, but accommodation prices spike and availability plummets. For the best balance of good weather and fewer crowds, aim for April-May or October-November. The wet season from December to March brings heavy rains, cyclone risks, and oppressive humidity. Many lodges close during this period, and transportation becomes unreliable. However, the island turns emerald green, waterfalls cascade down cliffsides, and you'll have beaches entirely to yourself – if you can handle the conditions. Temperatures hover around 26-30°C (79-86°F) year-round, but the humidity during the wet season makes it feel much hotter.
