Ikebukuro in August
Not the best time
August isn't ideal for Ikebukuro. Consider a different month.
All Months
Spring and fall hit the sweet spot here. March through May brings comfortable weather for all that outdoor walking between mega-stores. September through November works even better — clear skies and crisp air make the neon pop at night. Summer gets brutal with humidity, and you'll be ducking into air-conditioned shops constantly. Winter isn't terrible, but the concrete jungle feels extra harsh when it's cold. Here's the thing about timing: weekends bring massive crowds, especially Saturday afternoons when every otaku in Tokyo descends on Akihabara's northern cousin. Visit weekday mornings for breathing room in the shops.
