Hawaii in March

Not the best time

March isn't ideal for Hawaii. Consider a different month.

All Months

Hawaii has two seasons: perfect and slightly less perfect. April through May and September through November offer the sweet spot—fewer crowds, lower prices, and ideal weather. Summer (June-August) brings families and higher prices. Hotel rates jump 20-30%, flights cost more, and beaches get packed. But trade winds keep temperatures comfortable, and it's peak surfing season on the South Shore. Winter (December-March) means big waves on the North Shore—incredible to watch but dangerous for swimming. Rain increases, especially on windward sides, but temperatures stay in the 70s-80s. Hurricane season runs June through November, but direct hits are rare. More common are tropical storms that bring heavy rain and surf. Here's what locals know: each island has microclimates. Hilo gets 130+ inches of rain annually while Waikiki gets 20 inches. The leeward (west and south) sides stay drier than windward (east and north) coasts. Avoid major holidays unless you book months ahead and enjoy paying premium prices. Christmas week sees hotel rates triple and rental cars disappear.
