Guinea-Bissau in December

Great time to visit

December is one of the best months to visit Guinea-Bissau.

All Months

November through April delivers Guinea-Bissau at its finest. Dry season means clear skies, calm seas, and accessible islands. December and January offer perfect beach weather with temperatures around 28°C and minimal humidity. This timing also coincides with sea turtle nesting season on Poilão Island—green turtles lay eggs from November to February. March and April heat up but remain comfortable for island hopping. May through October brings heavy rains that flood roads and cancel boat services. But here's a secret: late October can be magical. Rains have ended, everything looks impossibly green, and you'll have beaches entirely to yourself. Avoid July and August entirely—torrential downpours make travel nearly impossible. The Bijagós islands become largely inaccessible during peak rainy season. For wildlife enthusiasts, February offers the best hippo viewing on Orango Island when water levels recede and animals concentrate around remaining pools.
