Greater Cairo in January
Great time to visit
January is one of the best months to visit Greater Cairo.
All Months
October through March offers the best weather — warm days around 70-75°F and cool nights perfect for walking around Islamic Cairo or exploring the pyramids. January can get surprisingly chilly, especially after sunset, so pack layers.
Ramadan changes the city's rhythm completely. Many restaurants close during daylight hours, but the evening iftar celebrations are incredible to witness. Just be respectful about eating and drinking in public during fasting hours.
Summer (June-September) is brutal. Temperatures hit 95-100°F regularly and the humidity along the Nile makes everything sticky. But hotel prices drop by 30-40% and tourist sites are much less crowded. If you can handle the heat, you'll have the pyramids almost to yourself.
Spring sandstorms (khamsin winds) can hit between March and May, turning the sky orange and coating everything in fine dust. They usually last 2-3 days and make sightseeing miserable.
