April through September gives you the best weather and longest days. July brings the Gentse Feesten, a 10-day music festival that transforms the entire city center into one massive outdoor concert. Hotels book up months ahead and prices double, but the energy is electric. May and June offer the sweet spot — warm weather, blooming flowers along the canals, and university students still around to keep nightlife lively. September works too, as students return but summer crowds disappear. Winter has its charms. Christmas markets fill Korenmarkt from late November, and indoor attractions like the Museum of Fine Arts become more appealing. Just pack layers — temperatures hover around 5°C and rain comes frequently.
