Geirangerfjord in September
Great time to visit
September is one of the best months to visit Geirangerfjord.
All Months
May through September is your window, but each month offers something different.
May brings snowmelt waterfalls at their most dramatic. The Seven Sisters roars with spring runoff, and tourist crowds haven't arrived yet. But weather is unpredictable — I've seen snow in mid-May.
June and July offer the most reliable weather and longest daylight. The midnight sun doesn't quite reach here, but you get 19 hours of daylight in late June. This is peak season though — expect crowds and book accommodations months ahead.
August starts the shoulder season with still-great weather but fewer people. The waterfalls begin to calm down, which actually makes for better photos without all that mist.
September brings autumn colors and crisp air. It's my favorite time here. The birch trees turn golden against those granite walls. But daylight shrinks fast, and weather becomes more variable.
