Hotel rates double, beaches pack tight, and dinner reservations require advance planning. But the energy is electric — every outdoor terrace buzzes until midnight, and the Mediterranean hits its warmest temperatures (24°C water). September might be the sweet spot. Crowds thin out, prices drop 30%, but the sea stays warm from summer heating. October extends the season with mild days (21°C) perfect for hiking the coastal paths, though some seasonal venues start closing. Winter (November-April) reveals a different Riviera. Nice's average high stays around 15°C, making it Europe's warmest major city. Most beach clubs close, but museums, markets, and restaurants keep normal hours. Hotel rates plummet — you can stay at luxury properties for half their summer prices. Avoid the Cannes Film Festival (usually mid-May) unless you're in the industry.
