Finger Lakes Region in September
Great time to visit
September is one of the best months to visit Finger Lakes Region.
All Months
Late spring through early fall offers the best weather and full access to activities. May brings blooming fruit trees and fewer crowds, but some wineries operate on reduced schedules. June through August delivers perfect lake weather — water temperatures hit the mid-70s by July, ideal for swimming and water sports. But summer also brings the biggest crowds and highest accommodation prices. September and October are magic months. Fall foliage peaks in early to mid-October, harvest season fills the air with the smell of fermenting grapes, and many wineries offer special harvest events. Temperatures stay comfortable for hiking and outdoor dining. November can be beautiful but unpredictable — some years bring Indian summer, others early snow. Winter transforms the region into a different place entirely. Most wineries stay open with reduced hours, and cross-country skiing becomes popular around the lakes. But many restaurants and attractions close or scale back operations from December through March.
