Weather's mild, tourist crowds are thinner, and you'll catch spring wildflowers or autumn colors depending on which you choose. Winter can be beautiful if you're prepared for serious cold. Erzurum's ski season runs December through March, and the snow-covered landscapes are stunning. But many rural roads become impassable, and some hotels close entirely. Ramadan affects the region more than western Turkey. Restaurants may close during daylight hours, and the evening iftar meals become community events.
