Eastern Turkey in April

Good time to visit

April is a reasonable time to visit Eastern Turkey.

All Months

May through September is your sweet spot. Before May, mountain passes are snowed in and temperatures can hit -20°C in places like Erzurum. After September, you're gambling with early winter storms. June and July offer the warmest weather and longest days - crucial when you're covering big distances. But they're also peak season for Mount Ararat climbs, so book guides early if that's on your list. May and September might be the goldilocks months. Weather's mild, tourist crowds are thinner, and you'll catch spring wildflowers or autumn colors depending on which you choose. Winter can be beautiful if you're prepared for serious cold. Erzurum's ski season runs December through March, and the snow-covered landscapes are stunning. But many rural roads become impassable, and some hotels close entirely. Ramadan affects the region more than western Turkey. Restaurants may close during daylight hours, and the evening iftar meals become community events. It's actually a fascinating time to visit if you're respectful and prepared for the schedule changes.
