East of England in October
Good time to visit
October is a reasonable time to visit East of England.
All Months
May through September gives you the best weather and longest days, but each month has its own character. May brings bluebells to ancient woodlands and reasonable hotel prices before the summer rush.
June and July are peak season for good reason. The coast comes alive, festivals fill the calendar, and pub gardens stay busy until 10pm. But expect crowds at Cambridge colleges and higher prices everywhere.
August means family holidays and packed beaches, especially around Great Yarmouth and Hunstanton. The weather stays warm, but you'll share every photo spot with someone else's kids.
September is perfect if you can manage it. The crowds thin out, the sea stays warm from summer, and harvest season fills farm shops with local produce. Hotel prices drop by 30% compared to July.
Winter has its own appeal — fewer tourists mean you can actually hear the silence in Ely Cathedral. But coastal towns shut down almost completely, and daylight disappears by 4pm.
