Door County in January
Not the best time
January isn't ideal for Door County. Consider a different month.
All Months
May through October gives you the full Door County experience, but each season serves up something different. Late May and early June hit the sweet spot — cherry blossoms bloom, crowds stay manageable, and temperatures hover in the comfortable 60s and 70s. July and August bring peak summer chaos. Beaches pack with families, restaurants require reservations, and hotel rates double. But the weather's perfect and everything's open. September and October deliver the peninsula's most spectacular show. Fall colors peak around the first week of October, and the crowds thin out enough that you can actually enjoy them. November through April? Most tourist attractions close, restaurants cut hours, and the weather turns brutal. But if you want Door County to yourself and don't mind bundling up, winter has its own stark beauty. The lighthouses look particularly dramatic surrounded by ice and snow.
