Colorado in July
Great time to visit
July is one of the best months to visit Colorado.
All Months
Summer means festival season. Red Rocks Amphitheatre hosts concerts under the stars, while Telluride Bluegrass Festival draws musicians from around the world in June. Hiking trails open as snow melts, usually by late May in lower elevations.
Winter transforms Colorado into powder paradise. Vail opens in November, and the snow keeps falling through April. January and February deliver the deepest powder, but also the coldest temperatures and highest prices. MLK weekend sees lift tickets hit $200+ at major resorts.
Spring skiing in March and April offers a sweet spot - cheaper lodging, longer days, and corn snow that's perfect for learning. But mud season follows, turning hiking trails into slip-and-slides.
Fall brings aspen trees turning gold across the high country. Late September through early October paints the mountains in brilliant yellows and oranges. Crowds thin out, but weather gets unpredictable. Pack layers - it might snow in September or hit 70 degrees in December.
Here's what locals know: shoulder seasons offer the best deals and smallest crowds, but services shut down. Many mountain restaurants close in May and November.
