Colca Canyon in October

Good time to visit

October is a reasonable time to visit Colca Canyon.

All Months

April through September offers the best weather — dry skies, clear mountain views, and the highest chance of spotting condors at Cruz del Condor. May and June are particularly good, with mild temperatures and minimal rain. The dry season means dusty roads but reliable sunshine for photography. Condors soar most actively between 8 AM and 10 AM when thermals develop, so early morning visits to viewpoints work best. July and August bring crowds and higher prices, especially around Inti Raymi festival time. But the weather stays consistently good. September marks the end of dry season with occasional afternoon showers starting. October through March brings heavy rains that can wash out roads and limit access to remote viewpoints. However, the landscape turns green and waterfalls appear throughout the canyon. December and January see the most precipitation — some tour companies suspend operations during particularly wet periods. Temperature varies dramatically by elevation and time of day. Expect freezing nights even in summer, while midday sun can be intense due to the altitude and thin air.
