Chania in March

Good time to visit

March is a reasonable time to visit Chania.

All Months

May through October gives you the best weather, but each month has its personality. May means wildflowers everywhere and comfortable temperatures around 22°C, but some beach bars haven't opened yet. Perfect for hiking and exploring without crowds. June and September are the sweet spots — warm enough for swimming (water hits 22°C), long days, and manageable tourist numbers. Restaurant terraces stay open late, and you can actually get a harbor-view table without booking weeks ahead. July and August bring peak summer heat (often 30°C+) and peak crowds. The old town gets packed by 11am, and good luck finding parking anywhere. But the energy is infectious, beach clubs are in full swing, and every restaurant terrace buzzes until 2am. October surprises people — still warm enough for swimming, fewer crowds, and restaurant prices drop back to reasonable levels. The light gets more dramatic too, perfect for those golden hour harbor shots. Winter isn't dead season like other Greek islands. Locals stay put, traditional tavernas remain open, and you'll have those narrow streets mostly to yourself. Just pack layers — it can get surprisingly chilly and rainy between December and March.
