Champlain Valley in February
Not the best time
February isn't ideal for Champlain Valley. Consider a different month.
All Months
Late spring through early fall works best here. May brings wildflowers and maple syrup season's tail end, but nights still drop to 40°F. June through August delivers perfect lake weather—water temps hit 70°F by July, and you can swim comfortably. This is peak season, so expect crowds at popular beaches like Sand Bar State Park and higher hotel rates. September might be ideal: fewer tourists, comfortable 70°F days, and early fall colors start appearing in the mountains. October brings full foliage, but it's a gamble—peak colors shift year to year. Winter transforms the valley into cross-country skiing territory, but many attractions close and lake activities obviously stop. Burlington stays lively year-round thanks to the University of Vermont, but smaller towns basically hibernate November through March.
