Central Illinois in June

Great time to visit

June is one of the best months to visit Central Illinois.

All Months

April through June offers the sweet spot – mild temperatures, blooming prairie flowers, and fewer crowds at Lincoln sites. May is particularly lovely when redbud trees bloom pink across the countryside. September and October bring comfortable weather and stunning fall colors along the Sangamon River. Summer gets hot and humid with temperatures hitting 90°F regularly, but that's also when outdoor festivals happen. The Illinois State Fair in Springfield runs mid-August – book accommodations months ahead as the city fills up. Winter is harsh with snow, ice, and bitter winds across open farmland. Many smaller attractions close or reduce hours November through March. Spring can be muddy and unpredictable with tornado watches not uncommon. But those April days when everything turns green and the sky stretches endlessly blue? That's when you understand why Lincoln loved this land.
