Cannes in January
Not the best time
January isn't ideal for Cannes. Consider a different month.
All Months
May brings the film festival and absolute chaos. Hotel prices triple, restaurants require reservations made months in advance, and good luck finding a quiet beach spot. But if you love the energy and don't mind the crowds, it's undeniably electric. The paparazzi, the parties, the general sense that anything could happen - it's intoxicating. June through August delivers perfect beach weather but also peak tourist season. Expect temperatures around 28°C and water warm enough for comfortable swimming. July is particularly crowded with French families on vacation. September might be the sweet spot. The weather stays warm, the crowds thin out, and restaurant terraces become pleasant again instead of sweltering. Water temperature remains perfect for swimming well into October. Winter in Cannes is mild but many beach clubs and seasonal restaurants close. January temperatures hover around 15°C - not beach weather but perfect for exploring the old town without sweating through your shirt. The Marché aux Fleurs flower market stays open year-round and looks particularly beautiful against the crisp winter light.
