Canadian Rockies in March
Not the best time
March isn't ideal for Canadian Rockies. Consider a different month.
All Months
July and August deliver peak mountain weather with warm days, cool nights, and wildflowers in full bloom. Expect crowds and book accommodations months ahead. June offers fewer people but possible snow at higher elevations—Lake Louise often stays partially frozen until mid-June. September brings golden aspens and crisp air, plus elk bugling season in Jasper. It's my favorite time to visit. October can be gorgeous or snowy—pack layers and check road conditions. Winter transforms the Rockies into a snowy playground perfect for skiing at Lake Louise, Sunshine Village, and Marmot Basin. But many mountain roads close or require winter tires. Spring arrives late—May still means snow at elevation and muddy trails at lower levels. The Icefields Parkway typically opens fully by mid-May. Here's the trade-off: summer gives you access to everything but costs more and feels crowded. Shoulder seasons offer better deals and fewer crowds but require more flexibility with weather and road conditions.
