Burren National Park in April
Great time to visit
April is one of the best months to visit Burren National Park.
All Months
Late spring through early autumn gives you the best shot at decent weather and peak wildflower displays. May and June are magical for botanists — this is when the Burren's impossible plant combinations really show off. You'll find Arctic-alpine plants like mountain avens blooming alongside Mediterranean species like bloody cranesbill. The temperatures hover around 15-18°C, perfect for hiking without overheating. July and August bring the warmest weather but also the biggest crowds, especially around Poulnabrone Dolmen and the Cliffs of Moher nearby. September offers a sweet spot — fewer tourists, still-decent weather, and autumn colors starting to creep into the hazel scrubland. April can be beautiful but unpredictable. You might get brilliant sunshine or sideways rain, sometimes both in the same afternoon. Winter hiking is possible but challenging. The limestone becomes extremely slippery when wet, and daylight hours shrink to about 7-8 hours. But if you can handle the conditions, winter offers dramatic skies and complete solitude on the trails.
