Bordeaux Region in December
Not the best time
December isn't ideal for Bordeaux Region. Consider a different month.
All Months
September and October deliver peak experiences. Harvest season brings the vineyards to life — you'll see grape pickers in the fields and smell fermentation in the air. Château visits include harvest demonstrations, and restaurants serve game menus with new vintage wines.
Late spring works beautifully too. April through June offers mild weather and blooming vineyards without the harvest crowds. Château gardens look their best, and outdoor tastings become comfortable.
Summer brings heat and tourists. July and August see temperatures hit 35°C, and popular châteaux like Margaux get packed. But longer days mean more time for vineyard cycling and river picnics.
Winter divides opinion. January through March means shorter château hours and occasional closures. But serious wine lovers prefer this season — you'll get personal attention from winemakers and access to library tastings that summer tourists never see.
Avoid November if possible. Rainy and gray, with many seasonal restaurants closed between harvest celebrations and holiday preparations.
