Bluegrass Region in January
Not the best time
January isn't ideal for Bluegrass Region. Consider a different month.
All Months
April through June gives you the best of everything - mild weather, green pastures, and spring racing at Keeneland. The Kentucky Derby happens in early May, but skip Louisville's chaos and watch from any local bar in Lexington for a more authentic experience. September and October bring fall racing season and comfortable temperatures perfect for distillery tours. The leaves turn brilliant colors across the horse farms, making this prime photography season. Summer gets hot and humid, but distillery tours stay cool inside those thick stone walls. Winter works if you don't mind gray skies and dormant pastures - bourbon tastes just as good in January, and you'll have the tasting rooms mostly to yourself. Avoid Derby week unless you book months ahead and don't mind paying triple rates for everything.
