Black Forest in November
Good time to visit
November is a reasonable time to visit Black Forest.
All Months
May through October offers the most reliable weather, with July and August being peak season. Summer temperatures rarely exceed 75°F even in the valleys, making it perfect hiking weather. But here's the trade-off: popular spots like Titisee and Triberg get packed with tour buses, especially on weekends.
September might be the sweet spot. The summer crowds thin out, hiking weather remains excellent, and the forest starts showing autumn colors. Restaurant terraces stay open, and you can still swim in the lakes—though the water temperature drops to around 60°F.
Winter transforms the region into a proper winter wonderland, especially above 2,000 feet elevation. Cross-country skiing is popular around Schönwald and Furtwangen, and Christmas markets in towns like Gengenbach draw visitors from across Europe. Just know that many hiking trails become inaccessible, and some mountain restaurants close from November through March.
Spring can be unpredictable. April sees wildflowers blooming in the meadows, but weather swings between sunny and rainy. May is more stable and less crowded than summer, though some higher-elevation hiking trails might still have snow patches.
