Big Sur in April

Great time to visit

April is one of the best months to visit Big Sur.

All Months

April through June offers Big Sur at its best—wildflowers bloom, waterfalls run full, and the weather stays mostly clear. September and October bring warm, dry conditions with the least fog, making it perfect for photography and outdoor activities. Summer means crowds and marine layer that can shroud the coast for days. But even foggy Big Sur has its moody appeal. Winter brings dramatic storms and the highest waterfalls, but also road closures and limited services. Many restaurants and attractions reduce hours or close entirely from November through March. The shoulder seasons reward visitors with smaller crowds and lower accommodation prices—though 'lower' is relative when rooms at Post Ranch Inn still cost $800 per night. Weekdays are always better than weekends, and arriving early in the morning gives you the best chance at parking and clear views. Sunset timing matters here—in summer, the sun sets after 8 PM, giving you long golden hours along the coast.
