Austin in February
Good time to visit
February is a reasonable time to visit Austin.
All Months
March through May gives you perfect Austin weather — 75°F days, cool evenings, and wildflowers blooming across Texas Hill Country. But March also brings SXSW, when hotel prices triple and every restaurant has a two-hour wait.
October and November offer the sweet spot. ACL Music Festival happens in early October, but the crowds thin out afterward. You get crisp mornings perfect for hiking Barton Creek, warm afternoons for food truck hopping, and cool evenings for outdoor concerts.
December through February stays mild by Texas standards — think 50°F to 65°F. You'll pack a jacket, but you won't need a parka. Tourist crowds disappear, making it easier to snag reservations at Franklin or Uchi.
Summer in Austin tests your heat tolerance. June through September brings 95°F+ days and humidity that makes you question your life choices. But this is when Austinites retreat to Barton Springs Pool, a natural spring that stays 70°F year-round. The city's music venues move outdoors, and food trucks serve late into the night.
Avoid major festival weekends unless you're attending. SXSW (March), ACL (October), and Formula 1 (varies) turn Austin into an expensive, crowded version of itself.
