Arkansas Timberlands in August
Not the best time
August isn't ideal for Arkansas Timberlands. Consider a different month.
All Months
April and May turn the Timberlands into a wildflower showcase. Dogwoods bloom white against the green canopy, and the weather sits in that sweet spot where you can hike in shorts but still need a light jacket for morning coffee by the campfire.
Fall — September through November — brings the color show. The hardwood forests explode in reds and yellows, and the summer humidity finally breaks. This is peak season for a reason, so book campsites early.
Summer gets hot and sticky, with temperatures pushing into the 90s and humidity that makes everything feel like a sauna. But that's also when the natural springs feel most refreshing. Just pack extra water and plan your hiking for early morning or late afternoon.
Winter can surprise you. Snow isn't common, but ice storms happen, and they can shut down rural roads for days. The upside? You'll have most trails to yourself, and the bare trees make wildlife spotting easier.
