Arkansas in May

Great time to visit

May is one of the best months to visit Arkansas.

All Months

April through May delivers Arkansas at its finest. Dogwood trees bloom white across the Ozarks. Temperatures sit perfectly in the 70s. Rivers run clear and cool from spring rains. This is prime hiking weather before summer humidity kicks in. September and October bring fall colors and comfortable temps. The Ozark Mountains turn brilliant red and gold. Crowds thin out after Labor Day, making popular spots like Devil's Den State Park actually peaceful. October averages 75°F – perfect for camping. Summer gets sticky. July and August bring 90°F days with crushing humidity. But this is prime river season. The Buffalo runs cool even in heat waves. Spring-fed swimming holes like Blue Spring Heritage Center stay refreshingly cold. Winter stays mild compared to northern states, but many outdoor activities shut down. State parks reduce hours. River outfitters close December through February. However, Hot Springs' thermal baths feel amazing in January cold. Avoid March if possible. Spring rains turn rivers muddy and hiking trails into mud pits. Weather swings wildly between 40°F and 80°F. April's consistency beats March's chaos every time.
