Light beams happen when the sun is directly overhead, roughly 11am to 1pm from late March through early October. Peak light beam season is April through September, with the most dramatic beams in summer months. But here's what guides don't always mention: winter visits have their own magic. The canyon walls show more color contrast without the harsh overhead light, and crowds thin out significantly. December through February means no light beams but also no tour buses lined up for miles. Spring and fall offer the best compromise — decent light beams, manageable crowds, and comfortable temperatures above ground. Avoid summer afternoons when Page hits 100°F+ and everyone's cranky.
