December and January are peak months when the harmattan winds blow down from the Sahara, creating hazy but comfortable conditions. Temperatures hover around 80-85°F during the day. April through June gets sticky and wet, with heavy afternoon downpours that flood streets. July and August bring a brief dry spell but stay humid. The rains return in September. But here's what guidebooks don't tell you: the wet season has its charms. Fewer crowds, lower hotel rates, and the city feels more authentic when it's not performing for tourists.
