Parisians return from August holidays, restaurants reopen, and the neighborhood buzzes with renewed energy. October's golden light makes the canal particularly photogenic. Winter has its charms but requires the right mindset. The covered passages provide shelter from December rain, and cozy wine bars become irresistible. Just know that many canal-side cafés close their terraces. Avoid the first two weeks of August – half the neighborhood shuts down for summer holidays. But if you do visit then, you'll have the canal almost to yourself for morning runs or evening strolls.
