In mid-April, sunset occurs around 7:45 PM and golden hour (best light for photography) runs from 6:00-7:45 PM. Plan major activities to culminate at viewpoints during this window. Sunrise occurs around 6:30 AM for early morning photography at less-crowded locations.
Transit Strategy: Metro vs. Ride-Hailing
Metro is most efficient for Downtown LA, Hollywood, and Santa Monica direct routes. For cross-neighborhood travel (Hollywood to Santa Monica, etc.), Uber/Lyft often faster despite higher cost ($12-18). Get a metro pass ($7/day) if using transit 4+ times. Restaurant Reservation Requirements
Popular restaurants (The Ivy at the Shore, Gjelina, high-end venues) require reservations 7-14 days in advance, especially weekends. Use OpenTable or call directly. Photography Restrictions & Best Vantage Points
Most public spaces allow photography freely. Griffith Observatory interior has restrictions (photos ok outside/terrace). Hollywood Walk of Fame is always accessible for photos. Venice Boardwalk best photographed early morning (before 9 AM) for fewer crowds. Beverly Hills Greystone Mansion garden has optimal angles from the front gates.
Parking & Walkability Reality
LA is car-dependent but walkable within defined neighborhoods. Hotel parking averages $15-25/night. Venice and Santa Monica have free/cheap street parking (arrive by 10 AM).
