Romantic Ruins & Aegean Green: 3 Days in Ephesus
Ancient marble streets, green hills, and lantern-lit garden nights
A slow, romantic long weekend based in Selçuk and nearby Şirince, blending the epic ruins of Ephesus with leafy hillsides, village walks, and cozy garden restaurants. Everything is clustered for easy walks, halal-friendly meals, and minimal planning stress.
Good to Know
How to Reach Selçuk from Izmir or Kusadasi
From Izmir (airport or city), you can take a direct train to Selçuk (comfortable, around 1–1.5 hours) or a bus/minibus; from Kuşadası, frequent dolmuş minibuses and taxis take about 30 minutes. For a stress-free arrival, especially as a couple with luggage, a pre-arranged transfer or taxi straight to your Selçuk hotel is often worth the modest extra cost.
Be Clear About Halal Requests
When ordering, say clearly that you only eat halal meat (“Sadece helal et yiyorum”) and ask “Et helal mi?” (Is the meat halal?). If there’s any doubt, choose fish, vegetarian dishes, and standard Turkish breakfasts, which are easy to keep fully halal.
Beat the Crowds and Heat at Ephesus
Arrive at Ephesus right at opening time, start from the upper gate, and walk downhill. Carry at least one large water bottle each, wear a hat, and take short shade breaks—most of the site is sun-exposed and can feel much hotter than the temperature suggests.
Cash, Tickets, and Connectivity
Buy entrance tickets on-site or as combined packages when available, and keep some cash handy in case card machines are down. Since you prefer no constant connectivity, download offline maps of Selçuk, Ephesus, and Şirince beforehand and take screenshots of any booking confirmations.
Dress for Comfort and Respect
Wear breathable clothes and sturdy shoes for ruins and hills, and carry a light scarf or shawl—helpful for sun protection and for modesty when entering mosques or religious sites. Even in warm months, evenings can turn breezy, especially in Şirince and on Ayasuluk Hill.
