Where to Stay

Mama Shelter Belgrade
Colorful, playful hotel perched above the Ušće shopping center with river views, plant-filled common areas and easy walking access to Kalemegdan, Knez Mihailova and the river promenades.

Belgrade Art Hotel
Modern boutique hotel right on the main pedestrian street, with some rooms looking onto treetops and rooftops, and quick access to cafés, parks and the fortress.
Good to Know
How to Cluster Your Days Easily
Belgrade is spread out along two rivers, so it’s simpler to dedicate each day to one or two neighboring areas: Day 1 around Stari Grad and the Sava riverfront, Day 2 in Vračar and Ušće, and Day 3 at Ada Ciganlija and Zemun. This keeps you mostly walking and using only 1–2 short taxi rides per day.
Getting Around Without Constant Internet
Download offline maps of Belgrade and pin key spots (hotel, fortress, church, Ada Ciganlija, main parks). Use hotel Wi‑Fi to check tram or bus numbers in advance, but day-to-day, you can rely on simple tram routes, paper maps and asking café staff or shopkeepers for the nearest stop.
Halal Eating Strategy in Belgrade
Fully halal-certified places exist but are scattered, so treat them as anchors (like Hanan) and otherwise choose vegetarian or fish dishes at mainstream restaurants. Always say clearly: “Halal, no pork, no alcohol in food” and when in doubt, choose simple grilled fish and vegetable plates.
Cash, Tickets and Small Extras
Entrance fees for places like the Tesla Museum or Gardoš Tower are small but usually payable in cash or standard card; carry modest dinar notes for playground rides, bike rentals at Ada Ciganlija, and ice creams so you’re not hunting for ATMs mid-outing.
Sun, Shade and Water
Even in spring and fall, Belgrade’s midday sun can be strong along the rivers; pack refillable water bottles, hats, and lightweight layers, and use the city’s many parks and tree-lined streets as natural ‘cool-down’ zones between attractions.
Your Weekend Itinerary

Pita Bar
Casual bakery-style spot for fresh pita and börek; order cheese, spinach or potato pies and ask for items without pork or lard (they clearly mark ingredients and can point you to vegetarian options).

Zavicaj Balkan Food
Rustic, foliage-filled interior serving traditional Serbian dishes; request fish or clearly vegetarian plates like grilled trout, grilled vegetables, shopska salad and bean stews, and tell staff you require halal-friendly (no pork, no alcohol in cooking).

Baraka
Industrial-riverside restaurant with greenery and outdoor seating; stick to fish mains, grilled vegetables, salads and pasta without meat, and clearly tell your server you eat halal and avoid pork/alcohol-based sauces.

Kalemegdan Park & Belgrade Fortress
Wander through shady park paths, climb the fortress walls for views where the Sava meets the Danube, and let kids play around the open lawns and cannons; you can also peek into the small military museum courtyard and the zoo entrance area if desired.

Stroll the car-free main street with street performers, bookstores, gelato stands and side alleys; finish at Republic Square where kids can run around the open space and you can grab a drink at a café terrace.

Belgrade Waterfront & Sava Promenada Walk
In the evening, walk the wide river promenade lined with trees, playgrounds and benches, watching river boats and city lights; you can loop around Galerija Mall for quick shopping or indoor play zones if the kids need a change of pace.

Hanan Restaurant
Middle Eastern restaurant with fully halal meats; go for grilled chicken, shawarma plates, mixed grills, hummus and kids’ friendly rice dishes, all clearly suitable for a halal diet.

Lively Mexican-by-the-river spot with a big terrace surrounded by greenery; choose vegetarian fajitas, fish tacos without alcohol-based sauces, guacamole and salads, and confirm no pork or lard in your order.

Join an English-language tour (family-friendly) where guides demonstrate Tesla’s inventions, lightning-like coils and interactive exhibits that kids can touch and experiment with.
