Why It Matters

One of the few luxury hot spring hotels in Korea that meaningfully reinterprets the Japanese ryokan concept through a Korean lens. Every room gets a private outdoor spring-fed bath, meals are an integral part of the stay (fine dining dinner plus a 13-dish Korean breakfast), and the Suanbo spring water itself — 53°C, pH 8.3, gushing from 250m underground — is genuinely exceptional. Opened September 2023 and instantly booked solid despite rates starting above ₩1,360,000 per night.

YOUONEJAE is a 16-room hot spring hotel in Suanbo that took six years to build — four in design, two in construction. The name translates to 'a house where you stay for a day gazing at a garden,' and the place takes that idea seriously. Architecture and landscape deliberately evoke a traditional Korean village layout, but the execution is sharply modern: every room has its own private garden and outdoor hot spring bath fed by the 53°C Suanbo spring water. Fine dining, aromatherapy, and near-total quiet round out the experience. No kids' club, no pool deck, no conference center. This place is purely about switching off.

Where You'll Stay

5 room types available

Type A – Yousoon
Deluxe Garden Room

Type A – Yousoon

A three-bay layout — living room, bedroom, outdoor bath — arranged around a private dirt-floor courtyard garden. Hanji (Korean traditional paper) window panels back-lit with a white glow, offset against dark wood and warm gold tones. The living room's full-length window looks straight onto the yard, where Korean mountain camellia and apricot trees are planted. Stepping barefoot on the soft garden earth is, apparently, part of the point.

Type B – Gyeomhwa
Deluxe Garden Room

Type B – Gyeomhwa

The living room and bedroom flow together as one integrated space, with a direct connection to the outdoor bath. Palette is warm oak tones with colourful wall accents drawn from Hanbok fabric patterns — more lively than the Yousoon. The garden features birch trees; the porcelain outdoor bathtub is the signature feature of this type. A good pick if you prefer open-plan living over the three-room separation of Type A.

Type C – Cheongsim (Family)
Family Garden Room

Type C – Cheongsim (Family)

A three-bay room organised around an entrance, living area, and outdoor bath zone. Oak-coloured wood and white tones — the 'people clad in white' of traditional Korean dress. The bedroom has sliding doors so it can operate as a fully separate room; both the bedroom and living room look onto the yard. Snowbell, mountain camellia, and maple trees provide seasonal colour. Also available in a twin-bed version (Cheongsim Twin) configured for accessibility.

Type C-1 – Cheongsim Twin

The twin-bed, accessibility-configured variant of the Cheongsim. Two single beds, outdoor porcelain bathtub, and an accessible toilet for guests with mobility needs. Shares the same oak-and-white aesthetic and garden outlook as the Family version.

Type D – Sujeong
Suite

Type D – Sujeong

The largest room in the hotel. A full four-space layout: living room, bedroom, tea room (with traditional ondol underfloor heating), and a bar. The colour scheme is two-tone black and light oak — the most polished and restrained of the four types. The full-length living room window frames a composition of stones and trees, and the outdoor bath sits under long protective eaves. The ondol-heated tea room works well as a private guest space for a third or fourth person. Two bathrooms, two shower booths.
