Löwen
Contemporary Swabian lodge — blond wood, felt, local wool and linen textiles, oak floors, chalet aesthetics paired with genuinely modern rooms. Think forest meets fine dining. The whole operation is deeply rooted in regional sourcing: Andreas has built a producer network over 15+ years, and his wife Anna serves as sommelier. It feels personal, not corporate.
Book the ursprung restaurant the same time as your room — it only opens Thu–Sun evenings and fills fast, especially weekends
Why It Matters
One of a very small number of rural German properties holding both a Michelin star (ursprung) and a separate Bib Gourmand (Gasthaus Löwen). The family has run this inn for over 200 years. On top of the food accolades — 1 Michelin Star (2019–present), Green Michelin Star for sustainability, JRE membership, Gusto 7.5/10, Der Feinschmecker 3F — the accommodation spans wagon cabins with orchard views at €76/person to luxury standalone chalets with private saunas at €226+/person. A genuinely unusual combination for rural Baden-Württemberg.
A ninth-generation family inn in the tiny village of Zang on the Swabian Jura, about 80 km east of Stuttgart. The property runs the full range — hotel rooms, converted vintage wagons in the orchard, two freestanding chalets with private saunas, a Michelin-starred gourmet restaurant, and a Bib Gourmand gasthaus that draws locals on weekday evenings. Chef and owner Andreas Widmann holds one Michelin star and a Green Michelin Star for sustainability at the "ursprung" restaurant, built in the oldest part of the original farmhouse where the village butcher once operated.
