Why It Matters
One of the most storied inns on the German Wine Route. Past guests include Aristotle Onassis, champagne house heir Remy Heidsieck, and the Shah of Persia. The restaurant earned 13 Gault Millau points and is built on the original recipes of legendary innkeeper Luise Henninger — the woman credited with turning Saumagen (pig's stomach) from peasant food into a Palatinate delicacy over 100 years ago.
A 17th-century listed half-timbered building on the German Wine Route, Weinhaus Henninger has been pouring wine and feeding travelers for centuries. The property was extensively renovated and expanded in 2013, adding a 4-star hotel wing to what was already a storied restaurant.
