Why It Matters
W Prague is the brand's first property in Czech Republic, and one of the more ambitious historic restorations in Central Europe. It received Forbes Travel Guide 4-Star rating for 2026, landed on National Geographic's '30 Best Hotels' list, and earned a Michelin 2-key designation. Le Petit Beefbar au Grand Café is separately recognized by Gault&Millau. The building itself was a defining landmark of Prague — and the revival has made it one again.
W Prague opened in 2024 in the former Grand Hotel Evropa, a protected Art Nouveau landmark on Wenceslas Square that closed in 2013 after a century of history. The restoration took years and kept the original stained-glass windows, gilded chandeliers, carved wood panels, and heritage staircase intact. A brand-new nine-story elliptical wing — designed by architectural studio DAM — runs alongside the old building, giving guests a choice between Art Nouveau heritage rooms and sharp contemporary ones. The two are connected by a fabric-draped transition corridor that feels like walking through a Mucha illustration. 161 rooms total. The whole design draws on Czech artist Alphonse Mucha and the alchemical lore of golden Prague.
