Why It Matters
One of Madrid's only true luxury high-rise hotels. The 25m 'Waterfall' kinetic sculpture by Pere Gifre is a genuine spectacle. The rooftop pool has a glass floor that reveals the sculpture below. A 17-floor glass-and-metal tower right on Madrid's Plaza de España, this is VP Hoteles' flagship and their first serious foray into 5-star territory. The lobby announces the ambitions immediately: a 25-metre kinetic waterfall sculpture by Catalan artist Pere Gifre dominates the atrium, and more than 300 original artworks spread through the building make it feel like an actual art museum you happen to sleep in. Designed by architect Fermín Vázquez, the whole thing holds a LEED Gold sustainability certification.
