Why It Matters
Michelin Guide-selected and a Design Hotels member. A 12th-century monastery in rural Umbria where all furniture and fittings are sourced from local Italian artisans. The former chapel doubles as a massage room and pottery studio. The hotel's truffle-hunting dog, Wilma, leads guests into the surrounding oak forest.
A former 12th-century Umbrian monastery converted into a 12-room adults-only boutique hotel in the hills outside Umbertide. Eight rooms occupy the original stone villa; four more are in a newer annex with private gardens. The owners — Swiss hotel veterans Frederik Kubierschky and Catharina Lütjens — sourced everything from Italian studios: Lispi forged the canopy beds, Cotto Etrusco made the hand-painted bathroom tiles, and local ceramicist Elena of Endiadi created custom pieces throughout. The vibe is less country-house formality and more relaxed house party — all-day breakfast, fire-pit aperitivi with locals, a cocktail bar open till midnight.

An intimate private dinner for two set up inside the former 12th-century chapel. Contact the hotel to arrange.
Led by Elena of local studio Endiadi Ceramics — the same artist who made the custom ceramic pieces throughout the hotel. Classes held in the former chapel or under the vine-draped pergola. After the workshop, Elena glazes and fires the pieces and mails them directly to your home.
Guided truffle hunt through the surrounding ancient oak forest with the hotel's truffle dog, Wilma. Umbria is one of the only regions in Italy with four different truffle varieties. Summer scorzone are the most accessible off-season find.
The hotel team guides you through creating your own personalized bottled Negroni to take home as a souvenir. Results vary in quality; effort required in consumption.
The team arranges private wine tastings at favorite local wineries in Umbria and Tuscany, including nearby Santo Stefano and Del Carmine vineyards. Montefalco — Umbria's most celebrated wine zone — is reachable for a day trip.
