Why It Matters
There is genuinely nowhere else in Chiang Mai quite like it. Only 14 of the 24 teak structures on the grounds serve as guest accommodation, keeping the property blissfully quiet. The houses were authentic rural homes dismantled and rebuilt by traditional craftsmen — no nails, tongue-and-groove joinery throughout. Each one has its own name and history. The resort has been featured in Vogue, Condé Nast Traveler, and OutThere magazine.
Villa Mahabhirom translates literally as 'large private residence of great pleasure' — and it earns that name. It's a compound of 14 antique Thai teak houses (ruen thai), all over 100 years old, sourced from Thailand's central plains, dismantled, transported and reassembled at the foot of Doi Suthep mountain without a single nail. Each standalone villa is different: unique artwork, hand-selected antiques, eclectic objects from the owners' private collection. The pool is saltwater, the restaurant sources everything locally, and the whole place is adults-only.

A duplex Thai villa with the bedroom upstairs and a fully decorated open-air living room on the ground floor, plus a private plunge pool. Walled off by greenery for complete privacy. This is the pick for a honeymoon or special occasion.

Two-bedroom configuration with a private pool, ideal for two couples or those wanting a separate sleeping area. Carries the same teak house character, antique furnishings, and Italian marble bathrooms throughout.

A single-storey traditional teakwood Thai house with a distinctly Siamese aesthetic. The bathroom is the showpiece: Italian marble throughout, a vintage freestanding bathtub, and his-and-hers vanity. Study area, private balcony, and minibar with complimentary selected items.
Twin or KingVilla Thai Duplex
A two-storey standalone villa that lets you live the full traditional Thai house experience. The upper level is the bedroom; the cooler ground floor is an open-air living room decorated with hand-selected objet d'arts and antiques from the owners' private collection.
