Villa Livia
Intimate Mediterranean boutique villa. Contemporary-classic in feel — locally rooted but refined. Think private home with hotel-level service on request, not a standard property.
Book the Aragona room for the direct sea view terrace and private hydromassage access.
Why It Matters
Hand-picked by Tablet Hotels and featured in the Michelin Guide. Only four rooms, so it's genuinely hard to get into. The Aragona room comes with its own private terrace overlooking the sea and the Castello Aragonese. The entire villa can also be rented exclusively for groups. Ischia is famously overshadowed by Capri — Villa Livia is the argument for why Ischia is worth your attention.
Villa Livia is a four-room Mediterranean-style villa perched in the Cartaromana district of Ischia, with some of the most dramatic views of the Castello Aragonese you'll find on the island. Built in the 1960s as a summer residence and recently renovated, it runs more like a private home than a hotel — four rooms, a large garden with outdoor kitchen and wine cellar, a jacuzzi-pool terrace, and hosts who will arrange everything from personal chefs to night snorkeling. The style is all bright whites and cerulean blues, ceramic tiled floors, and round Mediterranean arches. Small, intentional, and personal.

How you'll actually spend your days.
By boat to the Marine Protected Area for snorkeling over submerged archaeological ruins including a Roman Nymphaeum, then a biological dive to discover Mediterranean species, concluding in a natural volcanic Jacuzzi of underwater CO2 emissions.
A marine biology briefing on the Noctiluca Scintillans phenomenon, followed by a boat trip to a pristine bay for night snorkeling through glowing waters. Includes a swim through a sea cave and a section with visible underwater volcanic activity.
Car and bicycle rental can be arranged directly through the villa. Scooter rental can also be organized by the hosts.
Guided tour of the medieval Castello Aragonese — including the monastery of the Poor Clares, the Cathedral of Ischia with Giotto school frescoes, the Bourbon prison, and the museum of armor and torture tools. Visible from the villa's terrace.
Diving and canoeing activities can be arranged by the villa for guests wishing to explore the sea around Ischia.
A night hike to a mountain cottage where dinner awaits, followed by a guided stargazing session using powerful telescopes. The guide explains constellations, myths, and legends from cultures around the world.
An evening walk to the island's highest point for sunset, then descent to a farmhouse dinner with local produce. A professional biologist then leads a guided exploration of terrestrial bioluminescence — Italy's rare and disappearing firefly populations in the woods.
Guided panoramic tour of the island by scooter, with stops at scenic viewpoints, local neighborhoods, and a tasting of local mozzarella. Led by a local guide with an anthropological lens on Ischitan life.
