Villa le Prata - Residenza del Vescovo
Aristocratic-rustic Italian. Antique furnishings, antiqued frescoes, period chandeliers, and original artworks fill every room. Each of the 8 guest rooms tells a specific chapter of the villa's history. Adults-only, deliberately intimate, and anchored in wine culture.
Book the Terroir Tasting (€85) over the basic tasting — walking the four named vineyards with Anna Vittoria is worth every euro
Why It Matters
Michelin Key recipient (2024 and 2025). One of Montalcino's smallest and most artistically curated wine estates. The attached Leprata winery produces estate Brunello di Montalcino from four named single-vineyard sites — and guests taste those same wines steps from the vines. Eight rooms means genuine personal attention; the owners are on-site daily.
Built in 1860 by Count Carlo de' Vecchi as a hunting lodge — and later the country residence of the Bishop of Montalcino — Villa le Prata is now a working wine estate with just 8 individually designed rooms. It sits five minutes' drive from Montalcino's hilltop walls, surrounded by less than three hectares of Brunello di Montalcino vines, ancient chestnuts, olive trees, and cypress alleys. The Losappio family, who have owned it since 1980 and now run it under the stewardship of Anna Vittoria and Bernardo, make it feel genuinely like a house party in a very grand home rather than a hotel stay.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Held in the ancient chestnut park on July 7th from 7:00 PM. A dancing evening with grilled meat, Brunello, and live music. Includes welcome appetizers, a barbecued meat dinner with buffet sides, and typical Tuscan desserts.
On the night of San Lorenzo (August 10th), guests dine by lantern light along the cypress avenue, seated on Persian rugs, accompanied by a live saxophone, a bottle of estate Brunello, and a picnic of local products while waiting for shooting stars. €230 per person. One of the most talked-about experiences at the property.
Held daily at 11:30 in the villa's original kitchen. A convivial workshop culminating in a three-course Tuscan lunch (appetizer, first course, dessert) prepared by participants, with a welcome drink, a glass of estate wine, water, and coffee. Hands-on and intimate — run in the kitchen that has served the villa since the 19th century.
Daily transportation to Montalcino town is available for guests — a practical service given the 5-minute drive from the hilltop center.
Guided e-bike tours through the Val d'Orcia countryside and cypress-lined lanes, arranged through the property. Regularly praised by guests as a highlight. Led by staff member Julio, whose enthusiasm for cycling is reportedly contagious.
A 45-minute journey through three expressions of Sangiovese Grosso from the estate: IGT Rosso 'Tirso', Rosso di Montalcino DOC, and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, plus estate extra virgin olive oil. A charcuterie and cheese add-on is available for €25 per person.
The top-tier tasting experience: a walk through the vineyards discovering the terroir behind the estate's four named Cru plots, tasting six wines including all four single-vineyard Brunellos (Le Prata, San Prospero, Vescovo, Massimo). Plus EVO oil. Optional charcuterie and cheese for €25/person.
One hour tasting of five wines celebrating the depth of Sangiovese Grosso at different aging stages: IGT Tirso, Rosso di Montalcino DOC, Brunello DOCG, Brunello Riserva 'Massimo' DOCG, and Brunello CRU DOCG, plus EVO oil. Charcuterie and cheese add-on available at €25/person.
Guided tours of the Leprata winery, including its four small vineyards, the cellar (originally built by a craftsman from Ischia in the late 1980s), and the wine production process. Estate produces less than 3 hectares of Brunello.
Truffle hunts can be arranged through the property concierge in the surrounding Val d'Orcia countryside.
