Villa Gallici
Baroque maximalism meets Provençal dolce vita. Think richly upholstered armchairs, hand-painted wallpapers, antique writing desks, and candlelit dinners under plane trees. It's theatrical but never stuffy — the kind of place where the 'reception' looks nothing like one.

Why It Matters
Holds a 2025 Michelin Key, is a Relais & Châteaux member, and carries one of the more singular design identities of any hotel in southern France. The in-house gourmet restaurant La Taula Gallici has been run by the same chef since 2003. The top standalone suites — Villa Cézanne and Villa Picasso — have private jacuzzis and Roman-style pools respectively, set apart from the main house in the gardens.
Villa Gallici is a 5-star Relais & Châteaux bastide set in a 2-hectare garden, a 10-minute walk from the centre of Aix-en-Provence. Originally an 18th-century Provençal residence, it was reimagined by three friends who wanted to create a proper country house hotel — and they overdelivered. The result is a baroque, almost theatrical collision of Provence and Florentine Italy: velvet, damask, gilding, canopy beds, and 100-year-old cypress trees all vying for your attention.
