Villa Copis
Belgian heritage manor with a warm, home-like feel. Think crystal chandeliers over parquet floors, hand-painted murals, and hosts who know every good restaurant in the area. Romantic and refined without being stiff.
Room Victoire is the only room with a soaking tub — specifically a large double bath with garden views. Worth requesting if you want that.
Why It Matters
Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels selected. A protected Flemish Heritage building — the villa, coach house, and interbellum ornamental garden all carry official heritage status. One of the very few quality lodging options in Borgloon, which pulls day-trippers from Brussels and Maastricht but has almost nowhere to stay overnight.
Villa Copis is a 1931 fruit-growers' villa turned 8-room boutique hotel in Borgloon, the quiet market town at the heart of Belgium's Haspengouw fruit belt. Owners Wim and Veerle bought it in 2016 and opened it in April 2018, keeping the heritage bones intact: decorative woodwork, crystal chandeliers, hand-painted murals, and marble-framed fireplaces in the ground-floor common spaces. Rooms are more modern with pale parquet and a white-and-grey palette, plus period touches like antique writing desks. The breakfast buffet alone — local charcuterie, homemade jams, Loonse stroop (a regional fruit syrup), eggs to order — is worth planning your morning around.

Cycling routes start directly from the hotel door. The region is flat to gently rolling through fruit orchards and is one of Belgium's best cycling areas. The hotel has secure e-bike storage and charging.
Walking routes including the Rullingen and Grootloon trails start from near the hotel. The famous 'Reading Between the Lines' see-through church (Doorkijkkerkje) is about 1.9km away.
The hotel curates gastronomic packages pairing overnight stays with multi-course dinners at partner restaurants Nyde (800m away) and 't Grevenhuis (500m away), both within walking distance. Owners handle the reservations. The 2-night gastronomy package covers a dinner at each restaurant.
