Why It Matters
One of the oldest and largest quintas in the Upper Douro, it sits in the UNESCO World Heritage Douro wine region and has turned the full working-farm experience into its USP — guests can join the olive or grape harvest, hike seven mapped trails across ecosystems, and taste estate Port and wine poured by the people who made it.
A 500-year-old working farm turned 4-star hotel sitting on 400 hectares of terraced vineyard, forest, and olive groves above the Douro River. The 29 rooms are spread across seven stone buildings — each one a restored outbuilding with its own character, from a former overseer's house to a pair of round concrete wine vats. It's genuinely still a farm: expect to smell orange blossom, hear the occasional tractor, and find estate-grown produce on your plate at every meal.

Balões – Suite
The two most iconic rooms on the property: round concrete wine storage vats — nicknamed Balloons for their spherical shape — converted into large individual suites. Each balloon has a towering interior skylight, a comfortable adjoining room, and an outdoor shower. Access is through private wooden porches with direct views over the vineyard and olive grove. It's genuinely unlike anywhere else you've stayed.
Casa do Feitor – Accessible Room
One fully accessible room within Casa do Feitor, adapted for guests with reduced mobility. Same character as the Feitor double rooms with the same terrace access and décor approach.
Casa do Feitor – Double Room
Casa do Feitor was the Overseer's house, built in the late 18th century and later expanded for the estate owners. Five double rooms with natural and contemporary décor using regional materials. Shared spring-facing terrace over the orange grove and a glazed west-facing balcony with views to the chapel square, Douro River, and Pinhão village in the distance. Rooms 1 and 2 can be configured as twin beds on request.
Casa do Laranjal – Double Room
Five double rooms in a stone building in the highest area of the Quinta — once a shelter for farm animals. Each room has independent outside access from a shared wooden porch divided into five private sections, looking out over the central orange grove. The soft scent of orange blossom is the default ambient aroma here.
Casa do Rio – 2-Bedroom House
A small standalone house right at the riverbank, 2 km from the main hotel buildings. Two double bedrooms, a large living room, private terrace, patio, and private pool. The river, eucalyptus, and the occasional passing train are your soundtrack. Transport to and from the main Cantina and reception is not included — clarify logistics at booking. Feels like renting a private estate home.
Casa dos Cardanhos – Double Superior Room
Seven double superior rooms in what was once the farmworkers' dormitory. Original schist stone walls still stand — now framed by light modern décor with wooden beams overhead. Each room has its own private porch looking directly over the Douro River and Ventozelo's terraced hillsides. This is the best building for Douro-facing views from a private outdoor space. Room 21 can be twin-configured on request.
Casa Grande – 6-Bedroom House
The largest structure on the estate, 1.5 km from the main buildings toward the river. Six superior double bedrooms arranged around a central cloister that floods the space with light. Has a library, living room, dining room, and a private pool that seems to overflow right into the river view. First restored in 1992 over an 18th-century Douro building in a kind of colonial hunting-lodge style. A dedicated housekeeper accompanies the stay. Exceptional for groups or multi-family bookings. The most exclusive accommodation on the property.
Casa Romântica – Suite House
A single standalone house of wood, stone, and steel built on the site of a former rural shelter in an interior valley of the Quinta. It has a bedroom, bathroom, and living room, all oriented toward the olive grove. The design lets the landscape in so completely it barely feels like being indoors. Good for couples who want complete seclusion from other guests.

Seven mapped walking trails spread across the 400-hectare estate, each with a different thematic focus — including an olive oil circuit, bird observation route, hunting grounds trail, cork oak forest, and vineyard walk. All circuits are fully complimentary for hotel guests. Non-guests pay standard prices. Can be done self-guided or accompanied.
On-site shop selling estate-produced Ventozelo wines, Port, olive oil, and the Ventozelo Craft Dry Gin (with notes of coriander, lemon peel, lavender, and juniper). Products from the Gran Cruz portfolio also stocked.
