Why It Matters
A genuine converted winery from 1993, not just a winery-themed hotel. The name 'Vedema' is the Venetian word for 'harvest' — and the vineyards surrounding it still produce wine sold internationally. The underground Canava wine cellar doubles as a bar and private dining room. In 2019 it underwent a full interior renovation with marble bathrooms, and in 2021 added 13 new suites and villas.
Built around a 400-year-old winery in the medieval village of Megalochori, Vedema looks and feels like a traditional fortified Greek village — whitewashed walls, cobblestone paths, bougainvillea climbing over archways. It has 74 suites and villas, all with private terraces and many with jacuzzis or private pools, spread across villa complexes and handcrafted cottage houses. This is the Santorini option for people who want to skip the Oia circus without giving up five-star facilities.
