Why It Matters
Condé Nast Traveler named Urban Cowboy one of Denver's standout hotel picks for their Best Places to Go in North America 2025 list. The brand (co-founded by Lyon Porter and Jersey Banks) is known for transforming historic buildings into design-forward destinations. This is their first western property, and the Schleier Mansion's Gilded Age bones gave them plenty to work with: a signature onion-dome cupola, original stained glass, and the kind of architectural drama that makes the renovation as much a story as the stay.
A 16-room adults-only boutique hotel inside the 1880s George Schleier Mansion — a Queen Anne landmark on Capitol Hill with original carved gargoyles, Bavarian swan engravings, coffered ceilings, and eight art-tile fireplaces. Every suite is individually designed with custom hand-printed wallpaper, curated vintage antiques, and a hand-hammered copper clawfoot tub. Out back, the converted carriage house is home to Urban Cowboy Public House, a no-reservations bar and wood-fired pizza spot that pulls equal crowds of hotel guests and Capitol Hill locals.

Grand Suites

Watchtower is tucked into a turret on the second floor with black crisscross patterns. Roses goes full royalty with golden rose wallpaper and ornate gold-painted plaster ceiling trim. Wallflower layers orange poppies, stained glass accents, and a clawfoot tub by a giant window. Mama Tried is the biggest of the four — XL with exposed brick.
KingHoneymoon Suite
From USD295 / nightThe penthouse and largest suite in the mansion. Positioned in the historic turret with original 1800s stained glass. The signature feature: side-by-side custom copper double soaking tubs — the only room with two. Includes a mini bar, lounge couch, and gold shimmer block-print wallpaper that took over a year to develop. A chandelier sourced from the Round Top Antiques show in Texas (originally from an old bank) hangs in the bathroom.

King Suites
From USD295 / nightFive king suites — Pearl Snap, Midnight Rider, Promise Land, The Cabin, and Drifter — all with the signature hand-hammered copper clawfoot tub. Pearl Snap features blue Victorian wallpaper and a Wright mattress king bed with a classic Pendleton blanket. Midnight Rider is ADA-compliant on the first floor with black and red bands on the walls. Promise Land has red poppies on soft manila and a clawfoot tub by a giant window. The Cabin and Drifter sit above the Public House bar in the carriage house — both have handprinted craft paper walls and a bold black and red print, with a more rustic, lodge-like energy inspired by Urban Cowboy's Catskills property.
KingMilk & Honey (Superior Suite)
From USD295 / nightThe Superior Suite offers more square footage than most rooms: extra lounge seating, a dedicated work desk, and a decorative fireplace alongside the signature hand-hammered copper clawfoot tub. The walls are dressed in one-of-a-kind trumpet flower wallpaper custom-made by Printsburgh. The armoire was pulled from a Denver garage by co-founder Lyon Porter himself. Rugs sourced from Santa Fe Drive in Denver and Pendleton bedding throughout.
KingPony Suites
From USD295 / nightTwo compact suites — Gambler and Lone Ranger — with queen beds and copper clawfoot tubs. The smallest rooms at the property, but they still get the full Urban Cowboy treatment: custom hand-block-printed wallpaper (co-founder Lyon Porter hand-carved the spades pattern on a wood block himself), Pendleton bedding, and curated found objects. Good for solo travelers or anyone who'd rather spend less time in the room and more time at the Public House.

Guests can pre-select red or white wine at time of booking; the hotel selects a bottle from local natural wine producer Aquila Cellars in North Fork Valley, Colorado.
The mansion's shared spaces — original staircase carved with gargoyles, two parlors with art-tile fireplaces, coffered ceilings, and stained glass throughout — are open for guests to wander and discover. There's always something new to notice.
