Canvas Lake Powell - Grand Staircase
Safari-glamping meets American Southwest. Weathered raw wood, top-grain leather, and sleek metal details echo the desert landscape. Community-oriented around a central lobby lounge tent. Rustic but genuinely upscale.
Book the Stargazer tent specifically if stargazing is your reason for coming — the viewing window above the bed is the whole point
Why It Matters
Holds the distinction of being the world's first DarkSky International-certified lodging resort (certified August 2023), having spent years altering hundreds of lights and undergoing rigorous evaluations. Also named one of TIME's 2024 World's Greatest Places and listed on Travel + Leisure's 500 Best Hotels Across the Globe.
Under Canvas Lake Powell – Grand Staircase is the world's first DarkSky-certified resort, sitting on 220 acres of canyon rim plateau in Big Water, Utah. Fifty safari-inspired canvas tents on elevated decks are furnished by West Elm — think king beds, private ensuite bathrooms, wood-burning stoves, and private decks with views straight out to Lake Powell and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. No WiFi. That's intentional.
