Canvas Grand Canyon
Upscale wilderness camp — safari-inspired with a strong astrotourism identity. No roughing it, but also no screens or connectivity. Intentionally analog.
Stargazer tents sell out months ahead — book as early as possible, especially for peak summer weekends
Why It Matters
One of the world's first DarkSky-certified resorts and part of the World of Hyatt ecosystem via Mr & Mrs Smith. The Stargazer tent — with its overhead viewing window — is genuinely one-of-a-kind near one of the world's most iconic natural landmarks. Recognized in Travel + Leisure's Top 500 Hotels Across the Globe and Condé Nast Traveler's Top 15 Resorts in the U.S. – Southwest.
Under Canvas Grand Canyon is a seasonal glamping resort on 160 acres of piñon and juniper forest at 6,000 ft elevation — 25 minutes from the South Rim. Safari-style canvas tents come with king beds, wood-burning stoves, and optional ensuite bathrooms, while the camp itself is a certified International DarkSky resort with zero WiFi and zero TVs by design. Think stargazing through a skylight above your bed, s'mores every night by the fire, and a restaurant that punches well above typical camp grub.

Amenities & Practical Info
The details that matter for planning.
The main lobby and check-in area is a spacious tent outfitted with West Elm furniture — couches, chairs, and communal tables. Also houses Embers restaurant and the outdoor bar.
On-site guest experience coordinators help plan on-site activities and book off-site adventures like guided hikes, Jeep tours, and horseback riding. Available daily at the lobby.
There is no WiFi at the property. By design — Under Canvas calls it an 'intentional inconvenience' to encourage guests to connect with the outdoors and each other. Download maps and shows before arriving.
Epiphone acoustic guitars available to borrow from the lobby. A genuinely thoughtful touch for musical guests.
Board games and outdoor games available in the lobby area. Part of the camp's intentionally analog, screen-free entertainment offering.
Bottomless coffee and tea available throughout the day, featuring teas from Smith Teamaker. Complimentary for all guests. Premium espresso beverages available for purchase.
Daily housekeeping service for all tent types. Staff also available 24 hours for any in-tent issues.
Every tent type includes a wood-burning stove with complimentary firewood. Essential for shoulder season stays when nights drop below 40°F. Pull-chain shower systems and low-flow toilets in ensuite bathrooms reduce water use.
Each tent is equipped with a battery-powered fan. No air conditioning — fans are the only cooling option. Adequate for spring and fall; may feel insufficient in peak summer afternoon heat.
Bedside rechargeable battery packs provide USB charging for phones and devices. Replace standard electrical outlets. Guests are encouraged to bring backup power banks.
Upscale organic bath products stocked in all ensuite bathrooms — shampoo, conditioner, body wash.
Multiple communal fire pits around the property, lit nightly. The main gathering point for guests after dark.
Dogs welcome for a $25/night per dog fee. Pets must follow park rules if taken into Grand Canyon National Park — allowed only in developed areas and on leash.
On-site camp shop stocking essentials, outdoor gear, and Under Canvas branded merchandise.
Reusable aluminum water bottles provided to guests to reduce single-use plastic. Multiple water refill stations throughout the property.
Free on-site parking for all guests. No shuttle service — car required.
Dedicated outdoor yoga deck with Lululemon mats and blocks available to borrow. Morning classes included in stay.
